Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) is a state corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, established through Gazette Notice No. L.N. 110 of September 2011.
Operating since 1946 as CAIS, its mandate is to produce, preserve, and conserve animal genetic material (semen, embryo, tissues, and live materials) and rear breeding bulls. This ensures the provision of high-quality, disease-free semen to meet national demand and for export.
KAGRC collaborates closely with various breeding organizations, societies, and individual farms, including the Kenya Stud Book, Dairy Recording Services of Kenya, and the Livestock Recording Center. These partnerships provide herds for the breeding program.
Currently, the center operates multiple Liquid Nitrogen plants across the country. This ensures convenient access to the crucial preservative for bull semen.

- Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognized institution;
- Registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board and in good standing;

- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Commitment to duty;
- Integrity; and
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Extension Officer Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant animal production discipline;
- Registered by a relevant professional body and in good standing;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Fulfill the requirements of chapter six of the constitution.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Integrity; and
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Livestock Production Officer Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant animal production discipline;
- Registered by a relevant professional body and in good standing;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Fulfill the requirements of chapter six of the constitution.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Integrity; and
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Fulfilling the requirements of chapter six (6) of the Kenya constitution means possessing the following documents.
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA
- Clearance from Higher Education Loans Board where applicable
- Clearance from a registered Credit Reference Bureau
